Connection & installation
How long before I’m online?

That depends on your address. If the fiber is already in your home, you’re usually online within a few business days. If it still has to be installed, it takes a little longer. You can see the current status of your connection in Mijn OpenFiber.

What happens during installation, and do I need to be home?

For most connections we ship you the equipment and you set it up yourself. If a technician is needed, for example to bring the fiber inside, we’ll schedule an appointment and someone will need to be home.

How do I connect the fiber modem and the router?

Connect the fiber modem to the fiber outlet (the FTU) and link the router to the modem with a network cable. Plug both into a power outlet. After a few minutes the lights are steady and you’re online. There’s a short guide in the box.

I received equipment by mail. How do I activate my connection?

Connect the equipment following the included guide. Activation happens automatically once everything is connected and the line is ready. If it doesn’t work, check the lights (see “No or slow internet”) or get in touch.

Television
What kinds of TV does OpenFiber offer?

Two flavors. Traditional (linear) TV over the coaxial cable with a TV receiver, and interactive TV through our app on your smart TV, tablet, or phone, with catch-up viewing. You can use them side by side.

How do I connect traditional TV (coax) and tune the channels?

Connect your TV to the TV outlet with a coaxial cable. Have the TV scan for channels and choose “Digital over cable (DVB-C)”. If your TV asks for extra details, use the settings below.

Start frequency
354 MHz
Network ID
8888
Symbol rate
6900 Ks/s
Modulation
256-QAM
How do I set up interactive TV?

Interactive TV runs through NLZiet. Install the NLZiet app on your smart TV, tablet, or phone and log in with your OpenFiber account. After that you can watch live TV and catch up on programs on any device in your home.

I have no picture or a channel is missing.

First restart the TV receiver: unplug it from the power outlet for 10 seconds. If a channel stays missing on coax TV, run a channel scan again. For interactive TV: check your internet connection and whether the app is up to date.

I see blocky picture or the image stutters.

With coax TV this is almost always caused by the coaxial cable. Use a good, well-shielded cable (75 ohm) and check that the connectors are firmly attached. With interactive TV, stuttering usually points to a slow or unstable internet connection.

No or slow internet
I have no internet. What can I do myself?

Restart your equipment: unplug both the fiber modem and the router from the power outlet for 10 seconds, then plug them back in. Give it a few minutes. In many cases that fixes it. Otherwise, check the lights.

My internet is slow.

First test with a network cable connected directly to the router. If the wired connection is fast, the issue is in your WiFi (see “WiFi”). Many devices or heavy downloads at once can also slow things down. Not sure? The app checks your connection and tells you what to do.

How do I know if there’s an outage?

Start the self-diagnosis in the Mijn OpenFiber app: it checks your connection and reports whether something is wrong. You can also see the status of your connection in Mijn OpenFiber. If there’s an outage, you usually don’t need to do anything; we’ll fix it.

Which lights should be on?

On the fiber modem, the power and connection lights are steady (not blinking or red). On the router, the internet or status light is steady. If something blinks for a long time or a light is off, restart the equipment. If it persists, get in touch.

WiFi
How do I change my WiFi name or password?

You do that in Mijn OpenFiber under your network settings. If you change the name or password, you’ll need to reconnect your devices to the new WiFi network.

My WiFi range is poor.

Place the router out in the open and central, not in a cabinet or behind the TV. Thick walls and floors limit the range. If your modem is in the utility cupboard, you can move the router to, say, the living room with a network cable. For larger homes you can add an extra WiFi point so you have good coverage everywhere.

Can I analyze my WiFi?

Yes. In the Mijn OpenFiber app you can see which devices are on which WiFi point and which band (2.4 or 5 GHz), so you can quickly tell where the range falls short.

How fast is my WiFi?

WiFi is almost always slower than a wired connection, due to distance, walls, and interference from other networks. To measure the full speed of your plan, connect a network cable directly to the router.

Bills, moving & account
Where do I find my invoices?

All your invoices are in Mijn OpenFiber, and in the app under Invoices. There you can view and download them whenever you want.

How do I change my payment details or direct debit?

You can update your account number and direct debit preferences in Mijn OpenFiber. A change takes effect from the next direct debit.

I’m moving. Can I take my subscription with me?

If OpenFiber is also available at your new address, we’ll bring your subscription along. Let us know about your move in time through Mijn OpenFiber or our customer service, and we’ll make sure you’re back online quickly at your new address.

How do I cancel?

After the initial term, your subscription can be canceled monthly, with a one-month notice period. You can easily cancel yourself through Mijn OpenFiber or with an email to support@openfiber.nl.

How do I change my personal details?

You manage your name, email address, and phone number yourself in Mijn OpenFiber.
